Week 9 Part B: Using Categories
When designing a blog, vlog, podcast, or webinar for your business it's important to think about your target audience's interests. Knowing these interest categories can then aid you in organizing your content. Three to five categories would be a manageable way to start out with your content posts.
In investigating information on flowers for my Facebook and Instagram posts, I've noticed the only consistent flower resource to be Wikipedia, which I use as a last resort resource. This has opened my eyes that creating a blog that serves as a resource for information about flowers could definitely be an asset to my floral photo business. Keeping this in mind, I would use the following categories on my blog: Local Lovelies, Wildflowers, Seasonal Flowers, and Featured Flowers. Each category would be posted to once a month, with a different category posted to each week. Local Lovelies would feature beautiful flowers that can be seen in Oceanside and neighboring cities. Wildflowers would feature wildflower varieties in their natural habitat. Seasonal Flowers would highlight flowers in bloom that month or season. Featured Flowers is a catch-all category for whatever else I happen to capture in bloom. All posts will contain a recent floral photo taken by me, along with flower history, facts, location, and growing tips.
These categories would help my floral photography business grow by attracting flower lovers. They could generate a loyal following that may buy a floral wall photo from me instead of from someone or somewhere else because they would have familiarity with me as a fellow flower lover. The blog would also establish my identity as being a knowledgeable resource about flowers. A person researching a certain flower could find their way to my blog, which may lead them to looking at my floral photos and possibly seeing something they like for themselves or others. I honestly never thought about a blog helping me in my business, but after conducting my research I see that it's certainly worth giving it a go.
The two pictures included in this post are from my Instagram posts this week. The same posts were also posted to my business Facebook page sans the hashtags.
I read and commented on the following blog posts which were business specific and quite interesting: Sean Conti, Andrew Estelle, and Regina Tompkins.
