Week 1A: My Blog Theme

While my blog theme looks like something that was easily coordinated, I actually spent a lot of time on it before arriving at the finished product. I first investigated three separate Blogger themes of varying subject matter: Abstract, Home and Garden, and Celebrations. I also customized each theme with different background and font color choices through the advanced options customized drop down selector. While I liked all three theme selections, none of them really resonated with me.

Upon reviewing Professor Faulk's blog guidance video and sample blog, I changed my theme direction. I had also viewed some company blogs like Disney on Blogger for ideas. I decided to use this assignment to gain real world experience for future business blogs by uploading a photo of my own for the theme. I scrolled through pictures on my phone and found a picture I had taken of some flowers. I solely chose this picture because I liked the colors of the flowers and thought it would work well for the blog banner image.

I sent the picture to my Gmail and downloaded it as a jpeg. I used the Blogger picture upload feature to upload the picture and set it as the banner picture. I was happy with the picture upload, even though it automatically cropped the picture. The only modifications I could make were to the banner size and blur. I set the size to the fullest size possible.

I decided to coordinate my other background colors with the red, yellow, and green found in flowers. I deliberately chose lighter background colors for the profile sidebar and the blog posts. I prefer a darker font for reading. I placed green as the bottom background as I felt it matched well with the floral banner. Verdana is my posting font due to its easy readability. There's a gadget above the title that opens the profile sidebar. I enjoy the interactivity it provides, and it keeps the blog landing page uncluttered.

I'm really happy with my blog look and setup. Using a picture I snapped is a way to represent me and my interests. It also provided me with real world skills while setting it up. The circuitous route I traveled through the Blogger theme setup and company blogs was worth the end result.

  1. Great job on the picking the flowers! They look really vibrant and add a lot to the background of your blog.

  2. Great Job Nancy! I like how you used your own photo for the blog. I too had some writers block on this but eventually decided to go with colors I love. I believe that we all over think and we need to just pick something we are passionate about or even just like to do. That makes for comfortable and ambitious projects and art! Well done!
